I In 2019, TSN received funding from the East Coast Community Fund (supported by Orsted and managed by Grantscape) to deliver the project ‘Turning Turbines: a STEM Club in a box.’ The project will work with secondary schools offering them the loan of the components to build and run a large, wooden wind turbine. Eligible schools must be located on the coastal strip between Bridlington (N.Yorks) to Wells-next-the-Sea (Norfolk), a catchment zone identified by Grantscape (see map below).
Ahead of the half-term long box loan, teachers will be invited to a 1-day teacher training session covering all aspects of the assembly. All the components required for the build will be supplied in boxes by TSN and delivered by courier to the school.
TSN is delighted to be working with V3-power on this project (suppliers of the original turbine used in the assembly).
There will be no charge to schools for engaging with this exciting and genuinely hands-on STEM project. A contribution towards supply cover will offered offered to participating schools thanks to the grant support.
We envisage the project will offer a tailor-made STEM club in a Box with 4 sessions covering:
Our first successful Teacher Training Event was held on 27th June 2019 and hosted by John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby - a genuine HANDS-ON STEM EXPERIENCE.
Not only was the turbine assembled in a day, it worked! See the Turning Turbines video on TSN’s YouTube channel:
