This kit has been recently updated and now contains a Lightbank (donated by SAPS) and a Rapid Cycling Brassica Growing Kit. Using the Lightbank, the specially bred Brassica rapa seeds can be grown through a complete life cycle in about 5 weeks at any time of the year. There is also a radish and pea growing kit and a root viewer kit for additional hands-on investigations of plant life cycles. The kit also contains 5 sets of Life Sequence Cards (apple tree, butterfly, frog, chicken and mouse). 6 sets of Life Cycle Shapes (chicken, frog and butterfly), 3 foam Life Cycle Jigsaws (butterfly, frog and bee) and a plastic Butterfly Life Cycle Kit. Teachers' Notes and full instructions for a vaiety of plant-growing activities are included.
Another way to make this kit really hands-on is to witness an animal complete its life-cycle in vivo..TSN is not in a position to support this directly but we would direct you to the Incubator & Brooder Sets available from Easton College: -
These are loaned out 3 times each year: 1. Feb half term to Easter, 2. Easter to May half term and 3. May half term to the summer break. The loan is over a five week period. The charge for this is £15-00.
The borrower is expected to source their own fertilized eggs and find homes for their chicks at the end. The incubator is slightly larger than an A4 paper ream box, the brooder is designed to sit inside a box of similar size to a large fruit crate. The contact details are
