TSN Annual Meeting 2008 - To be held at the John Innes Centre on Monday 20th October, our annual extravaganza promises a surprise or two this year together with the usual high qiuality talk, resources giveaway and refreshments. A great way to catch-up with your TSN partner or bring the whole science department for a team outing! October 20th
NATIONAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING WEEK 2009 - Takes place between 6 and 15th March 2009 and grants up to £2000 available from Research Councils UK. Closing date for applications 13th October 2008, application forms & eligibility here. closing date 13th October

SCIENCE SHOW ALL ABOUT ENERGY - What is energy? How do we convert it from one form to another? PUPILS' SPEAKING ABOUT SCIENCE - Do you know of a young (14-19 pupil) speaker that could talk about science in a confident and energetic way? PUPILS' OUTLOOK ON SCIENCE - click here to download a simple pro-forma entitled 'Real Scientists in the Real World'. The project being led by Tony Brown, Head of Science at Hobart High School. He is looking for scientists & engineers to complete the attached form to help raise awareness amongst pupils (initially in his school but then going beyond) of the wide range of opportunities that qualifications in science can lead to. In particualr he feels pupils are unaware of the earning potential and possibility of travel that a science-based career can offer. If unsure about including names, salaries and organisations his preference is for an "annonymysed" return than no return at all. NOW!

Xperimania - an ambitious new project to raise awareness of chemistry among young people across Europe. The project proposes attractive inquiry-based science teaching and learning activities for upper primary and secondary schools. The campaign includes a competition for teams of young people around Europe, to set up an easy and fun experiment and upload lab reports on the website. Winning students will be invited to a ceremony taking place in the Benelux region during 2008, at a research laboratory of one of the Appe member companies. NOW!
KIT CLUB UPDATE - New Kits and Kit Couriers - engage the whole community of the school and get someone else to pick-up your kits. Parents/governors etc. who live/work near our base at JIC may be able to help more teachers access the Kit Club, why not give it a go NOW!

Recent events and news Dates
TSN Annual Meeting 2007 - Marked International Polar Year with an entertaining talk, giveaway of surplus equipment, free buffet & wine. Our speaker was John Digby, a former British Antarctic Survey scientist and enthusiastic photographer who give a pictorial account of life in Anarctica. We apologise that the teachers presentation had to be cancelled due to illness. October 2007
MASTER CLASS 13: GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS - A fascinating day for scientists, geographers, mathematicians mixing cutting-edge talks with practical - rescheduled from March 07. All our speaker's talks are now available elsewhere on this site.
Physics teachers to CERN -TSN, together with the Science Learning Centre and PPARC arranged a 2-day visit to the Large Hadron Collider facility at CERN, Switzerland. This trip was for physics teachers from across East Anglia and took place between 10th and 12th April - teachers and teacher trainers from across the East of England had a truly inspiring (if a little tiring!) trip. The BA Festival of Science, Norwich 2006 - TSN was delighted to have played such a big role in the huge success of this event. A summary of the Partnership Forum and the Young People's Programme will follow.

Annual Meeting 2006 - This years talk, given by Dr. Jonathan Hare, proved extremely popular with teachers and scientists alike as Jonathan revealed some of the secrets behind the Science of 'Rough Science' (the successful BBC TV series).
