PLEASE NOTE: we still want to keep in touch with all teachers, and its FREE to be part of our email builletins, just tell us how to contact you by completing the application form...
Upon receipt of your completed application form, TSN will issue an invoice to your school (unless required otherwise*) for the appropriate membership fee. We would prefer payment by cheque – payable to the Teacher Scientist Network – as this will allow us to track more easily completed payments. BACS payment is also possible.
* Should you prefer to pay the fee personally, let us know on your application form and we will invoice you personally.
Terms & Conditions
- An Annual Membership fee is payable in September each year with memberships running from 1st September each year until 31st August the following year (the academic year). The scale of fees reflects the degree of usage of the Kit Club throughout the year. These charges are subject to an annual review – notice will be given of any change in the published rates.
- Membership renewals will be prepared during the summer break and sent to schools in the first week of the Autumn term. If you move schools it is your responsibility to notify us of this change, so our records can be updated accordingly and your invoice sent to the correct address.
- All schools renewing membership or joining for the first time will be required to complete an application form. You may modify your 'level' of membership year-on-year.
- The Teacher Scientist Network (TSN) is pleased to lend its kits to schools, and believes each kit to be suitable for its suggested use. However, we recommend that teachers thoroughly examine and check each kit to make sure it is fit for the purpose intended, making any risk assessment that is appropriate. The TSN excludes any liability for injury or damage howsoever caused by the use of the kits, is not responsible for the standard of development or safety of any of the products used in the kits, and makes no warranty against errors and omissions in any kit or accompanying material.
- Schools are expected to take good care of kits and to return them on time in a complete & tidy condition, ready for the next school.
- Schools are required to complete the checklist included in each kit and to note on the checklist any items that have been damaged or are missing. Although the TSN makes the kits as robust and child proof as possible, it reserves the right ask the school to pay for, or contribute towards, any breakages or losses other than normal wear and tear.
- Schools are responsible for collecting kits from and returning them to TSN at the John Innes Centre, Norwich, NR4 7UH
- All bronze, silver and gold memberships include 1 x basic personal membership. It is this teacher to whom all correspondence will be addressed and who must make Kit Club enquiries.
- We would be delighted to accept other members from the same school, and beyond basic membership, all staff can listed on our email list.
- Unlimited kit use is suitable for those schools who borrow more than 8 kits per annum. This does not guarantee that kits will be available, as ever, all kit borrowing is subject to availability.
- TSN does not disclose members contact details to any other organisation or third party. Our privacy policy can be viewed here.
TSN gratefully acknowledges the support of the Wellcome Trust, the School for Social Entrepreneurs and Suzanne Cleal in guiding this transition.

Background
Our membership structure allows us to offer a membership package based on how much benefit you gain from working with us and accessing the TSN Kit Club. Even without borrowing a single kit, there is an option for you - so-called ‘basic membership’ will allows a teacher to keep in touch with the activities that TSN promotes for others as well as receiving prior notice on booking for TSN events, TSN cpd (eg. Master Classes) and invitations to join TSN focus groups etc. These updates will be available via our biannual newsletters (TSNews) and regular email updates. The membership will also include a personal invitation to TSN’s Annual Meeting, with its entertaining science talk, refreshments and giveaway of surplus lab equipment.
Those with Silver membership or above will also receive discounted rate on the loan of the Portable Planetarium.
