TSN organised and hosted Norfolk's 5th Health and Life Science Careers Convention at the John Innes Centre Conference Centre in February 2013. The event was funded by Norfolk County Council.
Our bid to host the 2014 student convention was successful and we are looking forward to the 5th February 2014 - bring your students along to this engaging and free event all about careers in science.
The event included a Scientist Question Time, hands-on activities provided by employers from across the region and stands that offered opportunities for real engagement between researchers and the students who attended. The event shared with the students and their teacehers just why Norfolk is a world leader in health and life sciences and the importance of this sector to the Norfolk economy.
"what switched you onto science?" | "why are you doing what you do?" | "what's next in your career?" |
"is there anything you do that's boring?" | "where do you work?" | "is the pay good?" |
"what was your favourite subject at schoo?" | "what's a PhD ?" | ""what makes a good scientist?" |
In 2013, our scientist panel included a lab manager, PhD students from the Sainsbury laboratory and School of Biological Sciences at UEA, a post-doc from the School of Chemistry, a local business manager for Napp Pharmaceuticals and a UEA career's adviser (herself an ex. post-doc from JIC).
TSN is most grateful to the staff and students from the following organisations who supported the 2013 HLSCC, and of course to our funders for this event, Norfolk County Council.
School of Biological Sciences (UEA), School of Pharmacy (UEA), School of Chemistry (UEA), UEA Nursing department, John Innes Centre, Institute of Food Research, Sainsbury Laboratory, BBSRC
